The Mercury Heavy Duty Bearing Carrier
was designed to help eliminate the premature failure of the needle
bearing design of the Mercury Marine Cruiser. The OEM design is perfectly
fine for its originally intended use where the prop is constantly
in the water all the way around.
The increased desire for speed and high performance,
however, put an extra strain on the OEM design and failure soon resulted.
The Mercury Heavy Duty Bearing Carrier is made of stainless steel
for strength, as well as corrosion resistance. It utilizes two special
simple row ball-bearings held in place by two snap rings to positively
retain them in the housing. The special prop shaft seal is also made
with a stainless steel shell and is a double lip design. |
The added strength and improved bearings allow high
performance boats running at higher speeds and propeller R.P.M.'s
to use surface piercing props running in a surfacing condition.
The unbalanced and eccentric loading of the prop shaft created by
the use of surface piercing props in a surfacing condition is better
stabilized and supported by the Mercury Heavy Duty Bearing Carrier.
